- Matriculation with exemption or university entrance qualification is needed to qualify for this degree.
- Registration starts in October of the previous year. Learners also have the option to register from January to commence their studies in July of the same year.
- The degree consists of 19 semester courses.
- The minimum period to complete this study programme is three years. Learners have a maximum of five years to complete.
- Continues assessments by means of tests, assignments and projects are conducted during the semester towards a semester mark. Such assessments are partly moderated by internal or external moderators. Evaluative assessments are conducted by means of end of semester examinations. Such assessments are partly internally moderated in the first and second and third year of studies.
- The semester mark and examination mark for each course are added together and divided by two to give the final mark for the course. Learners must have a final mark of at least 50% in order to pass a course.
- Learners must pass all the courses to be awarded the BTh degree at the graduation during the first half of the year following completion. To pass cum laude a learner must have a minimum of 75% in each course.
- After completing the third year of studies, the AFM of SA learners must/can apply to do their year of practical training.
- Learners can only write exams at approved exam centres.
