Community engagement (5 May 2012)

Changing the face of AfricaWith the participatory community development initiative ATS comes alongside our alumni in order to understand the challenges they are facing in the real world and to jointly create innovative solutions.

We believe that if we can provide support to our students and alumni, they can change the lives of the people around them and together, we can advance more effectively the Kingdom of God.

Tractor in Eastern CapeTwo chaplains from the South African Defense Force presented workshops on values and relationships to the men in the community.

One female participant, who was interviewed in July 2011 during the project's research phase, has started her own small-business. In 3 months time, prior to receiving any entrepreneurial education, her business has grown significantly to the point where she now has to move to new premises. A video of the followup interview can be viewed within the report.

Graduated studentsATS is proud to announce that five Honours students (three cum laude) received their degrees at North-West University ("NWU", for short, and previously known as "Potchefstroom University") yesterday.

In terms of a contractual agreement signed in 2010, ATS and NWU jointly present post graduate degrees in Theology.

ATS purposely elected not to register post graduate degrees in its own capacity, but rather to affiliate with a world-class university. This agreement allows ATS students to be awarded degrees that are recognised in academic circles worldwide. We live in a world where more and more fraudulent qualifications are being presented, which is why ATS has decided at all times to uphold academic standards and integrity.

Dr Mathew Clark from Regents Theological College, UK (in an open letter to the pastors of the AFM church of SA) stated: "Speaking as one who has seen the Pentecostal training situation in many international contexts, ATS (AFMTC) is one of the best, if not the best, training and research institution in the world for Pentecostals."

Dr TJ SkhosanaIn a recent public address, Dr. Frank Chikane mentioned that according to his own research there are currently four black AFM pastors with a doctoral degree. He made an urgent appeal to all pastors to equip themselves as best as possible; to study and do research up to the highest academic level. It might be of interest to note that two of the four doctors he mentioned are currently lecturers at ATS.

ATS would like to congratulate Dr. TJ Skhosana who has recently been awarded the PhD degree in Theology.

Christian Workers Course Certificate

“The need in Africa is to give relevant training to a fast growing church, where the rate of salvation outgrows the rate of leadership development”.
Dr Erasmus - former treasurer of the board of AFM International Churches in Africa.
